Somatic Experiencing | 60 Minutes
Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a body-oriented therapeutic model used to heal trauma and other stress disorders. It is based on the multidisciplinary intersection of physiology, psychology, biology, neuroscience, and indigenous healing methods, and has been clinically applied for over forty years. This approach is the result of Dr. Peter A. Levine's lifetime of work.
The SE approach releases traumatic shock, emotional wounds, and early attachment trauma. Somatic Experiencing facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of trapped survival energy in the body, addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is done by gently guiding clients to develop an increased tolerance for challenging bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.
